I would like to deviate from my usual blog on alternative energy and jump headlong into the world of politics.
After witnessing the fall of a brutal dictator at the hands of a united people joined together by a common cause it left me thinking. The people of Egypt of all races, religions, sex and age in a peaceful but forceful manner brought about a drastic change in a corrupt government and made their voices heard around the world. So you may ask what does this have to do with our own environment and energy policies? Converting to alternative energy and solar is a process that is affordable by all that are passionate about utilizing alternative energy and saving the environment. The answer is plenty. We cannot seem to come to agreement on even the most simple of problems in our own country. We can learn valuable lessons from the events in Egypt and Tunisia about sharing a common goal and coming together as one people to achieve those ends. It seems that more than any time in our brief history we have become divided on nearly every issue that confronts us. The lines of division are deep and visceral and are perpetuated by 24hr news cycle that appear to separate us among party lines. These separations do not benefit we the people, but further empower those with the greatest wealth and influence in our nation to hold onto the power they so desperately try to hold on too.
We all desire positive change in this great nation of ours, but ideologies in the means of achieving these goals are constantly clouded by misinformation and deception. Many people are unable or unwilling to see through the facade of the lies we are constantly bombarded with by the politicians, corporations and the media that further their agendas. It is we the people that pay deeply for this stoicism. We are facing a grave and uncertain future if we continue on this path of disdain for each other. We need to come together as Americans and confront these difficulties in a mature and productive way to bring about the changes needed to provide future generations a lasting and enduring nation.
United as one, we can be the once great nation that we were, but divided we will surely be nothing but a passing footnote in tomorrow’s history books. We are a young nation but must use our wisdom to not repeat yesterday’s mistakes. So my question is “when will our hour of distinction and exultation come”?
